Broadway Musical “Kinky Boots” to return in 2022!

The Broadway Musical Kinky Boots returns in 2022!

A third edition of the musical will take place in the fall of next year. Nami will once again play the role of Nicola.

After the death of Haruma Miura, the company has been on the verge of dropping the production but, after much consideration, the third edition will go ahead.

Artist Yu Shirota, a very close friend of Haruma, will be playing the role of Lola, previously played by the late actor.

Check out the company’s full press release below:

“We are thrilled to announce that Kinky Boots, the Broadway musical, will return for a third edition in the fall of 2022.

After a much-appreciated return in 2019, we had been working towards a third edition, but last year we lost much of our presence and at one point considered dropping the show.
However, with the memory of Haruma Miura, who has been the driving force behind Kinky Boots in Japan, and the love he has given to this production, we have decided to go ahead with a next performance in 2022, with the firm belief that Japan needs Kinky Boots.

And this time, Yu Shirota auditioned for the role of Lola, and the Broadway team we have been working with also saw Shirota’s audition video and immediately contacted us to tell us that he should be the one to have the role of Lola.

Addressed to everyone who has loved this musical, and to all the audiences who will be coming to see it.
The entire Kinky Boots Japan company is very proud to perform this production, which we love with all our hearts, along with the original cast from Japan, including Teppei Koike, who has starred in the production since its premiere, and the new cast members, including Yu Shirota, as well as the creative teams from the U.S. and Japan.

We look forward to meeting you in the fall of 2022″

  1. Poor decision running the show in Japan only two years after Miura Haruma passed. Really lack of respect in my opinion. Also, is Shirota Yu really suitable for the role of Lola? The company should seriously reconsider. Anyways, there is no actor in Japan who could possibly outperform the extraordinary delivery of Miura Haruma.

    1. I appreciate your comment. At first I was also surprised by this decision but I understand that it was not an easy decision to make. I don’t know much about Yu Shirota’s career, but I know he was Haruma’s best friend and I think the company and he felt it could be a good tribute.

The company did not intend to repeat the musical but because of the close relationship between Haruma and Yu, they reconsidered the decision.

It is clear that no one will be able to match Haruma’s performance, he is the only possible Lola and the best.

Thank you so much for your opinion🤗

      1. Thank you for the quick response! I’m sorry to say, but I don’t think Shirota Yu was Miura Haruma’s best friend; a colleague in the industry is a more appropriate description I would say. Considering how much Miura Haruma adored Lola and loved Kinky Boots, the role should at least go to an actor with a pure heart comparable to that of Miura’s. Shirota Yu certainly doesn’t look like the right candidate. Strictly my personal opinion…Thank you so much for posting my comments!🙏😀

        1. I only know that Yu had a TV performance on the day Haruma passed away and burst into tears in the middle of the stage, so I thought their friendship relationship was very close.

Nami loves Haruma very much and often mentions him on social media, I know he was someone important to her.

Anyway, let’s see how Kinky Boots develops in this different version.

Haruma can never be replaced by anyone💔

          Thank you as well🥰

          1. I believe there are entertainers who genuinely loves Haruma, like Nami, and was heartbroken by his pass away. Unfortunately, there are also a few with crooked minds, jumping into the “opportunity” pretending to be sad, for self-promotion and raising one’s own popularity! If one is a true best friend, would he/she be taking part in an illegal gambling activity, having fun laughing around, a day after your friend died? That crying face on TV to me was a total fake. I’d better stop right here, I think I might have said too much already. Again, strictly my personal opinion. Thanks for your comments!!! Thank you for loving Haruma, the One & Only Lola of Japan!!! 🙏🥰💞🐴👠
